Your Notre Dame journey will be filled with academic curiosity, exploration, and discovery. The Center for University Advising and First Year Advising will help you take advantage of your first steps to discover what path is right for you.  Even if you already have a strong sense of what field of study you wish to pursue, you should use your first year as a time to explore the wealth of options at Notre Dame that can integrate diverse interests that you may have into a rich and challenging program of study.

Thinking deeply about possibilities for your personal intellectual growth and development will be a hallmark of your experience with First Year Advising.

You will not formally declare your future college and major until the spring semester. For now, you need to make a provisional decision about your future major(s) so that your First Year Advisor can work to register you for the appropriate fall semester courses. You are not required to register for courses based on the major you listed on your Admissions application.

To help you make your initial choices, on our website you will find brief overviews of programs and requirements for the School of Architecture, the College of Arts and Letters, the Mendoza College of Business, the College of Engineering, and the College of Science. These pages link to more detailed information on their websites. Please review this information, keeping in mind that, at this time, you are choosing an undergraduate program and not a lifetime career. Throughout your first year at Notre Dame, you may follow an unexpected curiosity or change your plans concerning your college and/or major.

As you explore your options, you should learn about Core Curriculum and discuss any questions with an advisor by calling First Year Advising at 574-631-7421 or emailing firstyear@nd.edu.
