Your First Year

Questions about the beginning steps of your first year? Visit WelcomeWeekend.nd.edu and the Center for University Advising's First Year Communications page to monitor updates.

We know that what you do in your first year can have a significant impact on the rest of your college experience. That’s why we don't leave you to figure it all out on your own. Your work with First Year Advising actually begins shortly after you confirm your enrollment at Notre Dame, then continues through the summer and into the fall semester as your advisor helps you navigate the many new expectations and processes that are waiting for you. Once on campus, we help you maintain your academic progress and explore the wealth of exciting opportunities Notre Dame holds. Our systematic approach to first-year decision-making culminates in a declaration of college as a rising sophomore.

Our work with students pays off with success. Ninety-eight percent have gone on to their sophomore year and 96% have graduated within four years of entering the University. But for us, student success is about more than grades or graduating — it’s about going beyond what’s “required" to discover how you can use Notre Dame's vast resources to achieve a personally meaningful, well-rounded education.
