First Year Academic Support
The First Year of Studies employs two full-time faculty members and hires more than 200 sophomores, juniors, and seniors each semester to help first-year students build study skills, understand course content, and find effective strategies for motivation:
- Our Learning Resource Center provides tutoring sessions for specific courses that first-year students are taking. These sessions are led by students who have completed the course with an "A" and supplement the support provided by course instructors.
- Our Program in Academic Excellence helps students build study skills and strategies that can be applied across courses and disciplines.
- The Peer Advising Program was developed by the First Year of Studies to connect you with juniors and seniors who have been exactly where you are now and can share the student perspective on academics at Notre Dame.
If you need help with writing and research, we can connect you with support from the Writing Center and the First Year Librarian; both programs offer one-on-one consultations to address your specific needs. Located with us on the second floor of the Coleman-Morse Center, these services are within easy reach and make a critical contribution to our academic support.
