Course Number: SOC 13181-3
Instructor: J. Samuel Valenzuela
The seminar examines current issues in international affairs and how the U.S. should respond to them. Participants are divided into six groups—five on different areas of the world and one on issues of global significance. Each session discusses two world issues chosen by students. They first present their issue orally, and at a subsequent session they read policy-like memos based on further research on it. Students then rotate to focus on a different topical area. The basic common reading for the seminar consists of the international news coverage of the New York Times.
