History of Chicago Theater

Course Number: FTT 13182-2
Instructor: Marcus Stephens

We will explore Chicago theater history and what makes it unique to the American theater landscape. Through reading, writing, and discussion students will investigate how this theater town continues to evolve. What were the circumstances that created this fiercely independent, highly individualized, and place oriented, regional hub? From the Chicago fire to the mayoral election of Rahm Emanuel, we will attempt to answer these questions and actively help to construct part of Chicago theatrical history.
