Dr. Erin Moira Lemrow is currently an Assistant Advising Professor who serves as an academic advisor to first-year students the College of Arts and Letters. Prior to serving in this role, Dr. Lemrow was the Burke, Hofman, Kholberg postdoctoral scholar in what was the First Year of Studies at Notre Dame. In this role she taught coursework on Language, Culture, and Identity and served on the diversity committee for Moreau First Year Experience course.
Dr. Lemrow is also a faculty fellow with the Institute for Latino Studies and Education, Schooling and Society where she teaches the course, Latinos and Literacy in American Schooling Contexts. In addition, Dr. Lemrow also serves as guest faculty for ACE at Notre Dame and teaches for the English as a New Language Program. Dr. Lemrow has also served on the Fullbright English Language Teacher Program Interview Committee.
Dr. Lemrow earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in Literacy, Culture and Language Education from Indiana University, Bloomington and her B.A. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor with specializations in Anthropology and Francophone Studies.
Dr. Lemrow’s research interests include: the intersections of language, literacy and identity, multiraciality in higher education, and critical multiculturalism and multilingualism. Dr. Lemrow has presented papers on these topics at the renowned Ethnography Forum in Education at the Graduate School of Education, University of Pennsylvania and the Let’s Talk conference at the University of Notre Dame. In 2016, she was selected as a participant in the AERA’s (American Educational Research Association) Division G (Social Contexts of Education) Early Career Scholars Mentorship Program. She has taught courses on multicultural and multilingual education; English as a new language; foreign language teaching methodology; second language acquisition; French; sociolinguistics; Caribbean studies; and critical literacy and identity in language education.
Dr. Lemrow is currently working on a collaboration between Montessori educators in San Juan, Puerto Rico and South Bend. Dr. Lemrow is also interested in the history of education in Puerto Rico both pre- and post Hurricane María and now in the aftermath of the earthquakes. Locally, Dr. Lemrow has worked with the South Bend Civic Theatre to bring the works of Pulitzer Prize winning African American playwright, August Wilson to the South Bend Community Schools. She held educational workshops with local teachers and is the co-editor of an interdisciplinary Resource Packet for Teachers.
