HIST 13184-7: Opportunity Lost

Instructor: Richard Pierce

History University Seminar

During the semester, we will engage in the practice of considering alternatives to historical realities. It is a practice that I rarely tolerate and usually request my students to avoid. We will examine twelve significant events/individuals that were controversial in their day and remain a source of debate in present times. Hopefully, we will do more than examine events from yesteryear. We will research, debate, and passionately argue positions that might have greatly changed American society. In a sense, we dare to consider “what if?” A rather unfettered intellectual journey ensues.
