Top 5 Things to Do that Most Freshmen (and everyone else) Miss
1. Morris Performing Arts Centre http://www.morriscenter.org/
Many students do the “day trip to Chicago to see a show and go to dinner” thing. If you are looking for a more nearby, budget-friendly option though, head to downtown South Bend for dinner and a show at the Morris. Last spring, they put on Wicked and they also have headline concerts coming through regularly.
2. Indulgence http://www.indulgencepastryshop.com/
This little pastry shop is right off campus and it has some of the best café style food I have ever had (and I’ve been to France…) If you need a break from Au Bon Pain, do a roommate date or take a group of friends for a filling, satisfying and delicious meal at this amazing (and pretty cheap!) place. Hint: it’s the best spot for a post-movie dessert stop.
3. Sports besides Football http://www.und.com/
Compton Ice Arena is awesome, our women’s basketball team is really good, volleyball games are free for students and there are a ton of giveaways at soccer games. Make sure you leave some school spirit for the plethora of other athletics we have at Notre Dame and go support your fellow students!
4. The Golf Course http://warrengolfcourse.com/
There’s actually a golf course on campus. Frankly, I don’t think I discovered it until my sophomore year. This is a fun thing to do one afternoon (only at the beginning or end of the year, though….) and it’s pretty cheap! I’d suggest Caddyshack beforehand or a good round of campus golf first, though.
5. Snite Museum http://sniteartmuseum.nd.edu/
Honestly, I’m not usually a huge fan of art museums, but the Snite changed my mind about experiencing art. While you can walk through the museum regularly (and this is well worth it, too!), there are also really cool galleries, lectures and events that make this museum a typically undiscovered treasure!
