Digital Visualization Theater

This page was last updated on July 18, 2017.

Produced by the Notre Dame Digital Visualization Theater in cooperation with the McGrath Institute for Church Life, the First Year of Studies will sponsor two planetarium programs in 2017-2018 that combine scientific information and theological reflections.

Let There Be Light: An Adventure in Kazakhstan

Let There Be Light is a short planetarium program, produced at Notre Dame, that has just completed a three-month run as part of the Holy See’s exhibition Energy for the Common Good: Caring for Our Common Home at the 2017 International Expo in Astana, Kazakhstan. Join the program’s co-creator Dr. Philip Sakimoto as he screens the program, describes the adventure of bringing it to Kazakhstan, and discusses its message to a world suffering from climate change. This talk will be of particular interest to students who are puzzled about climate change: What do scientists really know? What is the Church’s role? What can we do about it?

Date: September 28, 2017
Time: 7:30 to 9:00pm
Location: Digital Visualization Theatre, Jordan Hall of Science

All Creation Gives Praise

All Creation Gives Praise is a feature-length planetarium program, produced at Notre Dame, that takes viewers on a journey through the Universe. As we go, scientific explanations of what we see are blended with theological reflections on the meaning of what we see. Together they lead us to imagine anew the connectedness and sacredness of all creation. To all who are troubled by the public perception that science and religion are somehow antithetical, this is the antidote. Spend an hour immersed in the grandeur and beauty of God’s creation, as revealed by our scientific explorations.

Date: February 2018
Time: 7:30 to 9:00pm
Location: Digital Visualization Theatre, Jordan Hall of Science

The date for the program will be set after the time slots for class use of the theater have been finalized.
