Notre Dame Exam Program

The First Year of Studies administers placement and credit exams for mathematics and foreign languages. These exams are designed for the specific requirements of these math and foreign language courses at Notre Dame.

Foreign Language Examinations

Examinations for French, Spanish, German, and Latin are available online and should be taken during the summer before fall semester scheduling begins, or in the fall before spring semester scheduling begins:

Examinations for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean will be given at 1:00 p.m. on the Friday of First Year Welcome Weekend. You must register to reserve a space to take these exams.

This form will be activated on June 1 and the deadline to register is July 1st.

The examination for Italian must be arranged through your First Year Advisor once you arrive on campus.

Mathematics Examination

The mathematics examination will be given at 1:00 pm on the Friday of First Year Welcome Weekend. You must register to reserve a space to take this exam.

Examinations in the Notre Dame Mathematics Credit Examination Program include examinations for several levels of calculus, Elements of Calculus (MATH 10250 for students inclined toward Arts and Letters, Business, Architecture) and Calculus I, II and III (the MATH 10550-10560-20550 sequence for students inclined toward Engineering and Science). In addition, we offer an examination for ACMS 10145 (Statistics for the Colleges of Business and Arts and Letters). The examinations will be based on college-level courses. Students who receive credit through the Advanced Placement Program or the International Baccalaureate Program should not request to take the mathematics examination at Notre Dame.
