May 26, 2017: Learn More About Credit and Placement by Exam at Notre Dame
Approved credit is awarded by the Dean of the First Year of Studies.
The First Year of Studies processes all credit and placement you may receive based on standardized test scores or on your performance on Notre Dame placement examinations, as well as any transfer credit you might receive for college-level work completed at other institutions. The other University schools and colleges, and their departments, however, in coordination with the First Year of Studies, determine what credit or placement will be awarded based on prior work and/or examination results.
May 26, 2017: Parent Sign Up for Email Communications
We will send information to parents who opt in to receive our email communications.
More than one parent or guardian can sign up. Just fill out the form as many times as you need.
May 22, 2017: Three Requirements to Complete Now
You should complete these requirements as soon as possible.
Housing Application — Home Under the Dome
Notre Dame requires all first-year students to live in a residence hall on campus. The 2017-18 housing application and contract will be available for you to complete online beginning at approximately 11:00 a.m. EST on Monday, May 22 and must be completed by 12:00 p.m. on Monday, June 5.
Authorized Payers & Billing Statements — IRISHPAY
IRISHPAY is the University’s online student account statement and payment system available to both students and their authorized payers (parents/guardians). The payer authorization process allows viewing privileges, as well as optional online payment capability.
Immunizations & Health Records — University Health Services
Incoming students must submit information regarding their immunizations and health insurance to University Health Services by July 15.
May 12, 2017: Complete your Academic Code of Honor requirement
The University of Notre Dame is a scholarly community in which faculty and students share knowledge, ideas, and creative works. Notre Dame’s Academic Code of Honor expresses our common commitment and moral responsibility to accurately represent the contributions of every individual.
The Student Guide to the Academic Code of Honor describes the standards of personal academic conduct that all Notre Dame students pledge to follow. The guide also outlines the set of procedures by which violations of the Honor Code are reported and adjudicated. The consequence of an Honor Code violation is serious. At a minimum, a student found responsible for an Honor Code violation usually fails the assignment in question. A more serious offense may result in failure of an entire course. A student is normally suspended or dismissed if found responsible for more than one violation of Notre Dame’s Academic Code of Honor.
May 5, 2017: Activate your netID and access your ND Gmail account
Instructions for activating your NetID
Your NetID is the logon ID used to check email and to log on to other University services. Each individual has a unique NetID that is a combination of the first letter of their first name and all or a portion of their last name. Some NetIDs also contain a number, depending on the number of individuals who have attended the University with that combination of first letter and last name. You can learn more about ND NetIDs at oithelp.nd.edu/netid-and-passwords.
You must obtain your NetID as soon as possible and use it to access your Notre Dame Gmail account where you will find instructions for important tasks you must complete and information about our timeline for the next several months.
THINGS YOU NEED BEFORE YOU START:
- To obtain your NetID, you will need your ndID number. Your ndID number is a nine-digit number that was sent in your Admissions confirmation packet. It begins with either “901” or “902.” If you can’t find your ndID number, please contact the First Year of Studies at (574) 631-7421
- After you have completed the netID activation process, you will be asked to enroll at least two devices in Two Step Login to protect you and our entire community from cyber-attacks. Please review information about how Two Step Login works before beginning your NetID activation process.
Note: Notre Dame uses your ndID number to identify you — we do not use Social Security Numbers (SSNs) and will not ask for yours. Please do not send your SSN to anyone.
To activate your NetID, go to accounts.nd.edu/activation with your ndID number. Follow the prompts for account set-up and NetID activation. If you do not have Internet access, please contact the First Year of Studies at (574) 631-7421.
ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS IF YOU RECEIVE AN ERROR MESSAGE:
If you enter your ndID number and receive the message below, that means you have previously activated your NetID because you participated in a program here, e.g. Summer Scholars.
Could not find an eligible account for that ndID.
Please recheck the value and try again.
This message means you already have a password associated with your NetID. If you DO NOT remember what that password is, you will have to call the OIT Help Desk at (574) 631-8111 so that they can help you with a password reset.
If you DO remember the password, you can go directly to twostep.nd.edu and complete the second part of the activation process there.
If you have questions about or problems with obtaining your NetID, you may contact the OIT Help Desk at (574) 631-8111, or email firstname.lastname@example.org. During business hours, you can also chat with the OIT Help Desk by visiting help.nd.edu.
Note: The Help Desk closes at 5:00 pm EST on Friday and reopens at 7:30 am EST on Monday.

Instructions for accessing your Notre Dame Gmail account
Once you have activated your NetID, go to gmail.nd.edu, log into your email account with your NetID and password, then open the email from the First Year of Studies and follow those instructions.
Note: Your ND email address is your NetID: email@example.com. At Notre Dame, your email password and your NetID password are the same.
