Course Number: HIST 13184-6
Instructor: James (Jake) Lundberg
Who were the American Founders? The immense popularity of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Hamilton” and its creative revision of the cast of Founders has thrown an old question into a new light. Drawing on that energy, this course invites students into the world of the American Founders. It seeks to understand the Founding generation historically, and, in the process, ultimately to broaden the very definition of a “Founder.” Students will therefore encounter familiar figures like Hamilton, Jefferson, and Washington, but will be introduced to new ones who lived in the shadows, beyond the elite world of politics.
