Understanding Societies

SOC 10002: Understanding Societies

The overarching purpose of this course is to cultivate your “sociological imagination,” which can then be used to better understand yourself and your place in the larger world.

In this course, we will develop working knowledge of the theories, methodologies, vocabulary, and themes of the discipline of sociology. During the semester, you will explore our society through a variety of lines of inquiry.

  • What is the link between individuals and their culture?
  • How is social interaction structured and how does this affect our behavior?
  • What is inequality?
  • How do institutions influence our lives?
